Nutrition Coaching in Blaine, Without the Restriction

A certified nutrition specialist builds your plan, checks in every week, and changes it as you do. One small step at a time.

Why the scale stops moving

Many people arrive at Legacy Fitness with a long history of diets. Cut something out, white-knuckle it for a month, lose a few pounds, then watch it come back. Nancy Zugschwert described her starting point on Google as: "I came to Legacy Fitness to break a lifelong habit of poor eating, yo-yo dieting, and a sedentary lifestyle." The pattern is not a character flaw. Plans built on restriction are plans built to be abandoned, because nobody lives that way for long.

Legacy's position is blunt: "at least 80% of your fitness results will come from your nutrition." If 80% of your results ride on what you eat, then hard training in a good class can only do so much on its own. That is why the gym treats food as part of the plan from the first call and not a pamphlet handed over at the door.

Nobody should expect to out-train a food plan that is working against them, and the coaches at Legacy do not ask anyone to try. The classes build strength and conditioning. Nutrition Coaching is the other half, aimed at the body composition changes that most members come to Legacy for in the first place, in men and women in their 40s, 50s and 60s.

How the coaching works

Nutrition at Legacy is run by highly-certified nutrition specialists. Maranda Gernes and Eric Rathke are both Certified Nutrition Specialists and lifestyle coaches. A coach consults with you on a custom nutrition plan with "a high level of tracking, adjusting, and accountability", which is a plain way of saying the plan gets checked and changed as your life and your body respond. It is designed around you, without restriction.

The method is small steps. Karrie Rugland wrote on Google: "Maranda met me where I was at with nutrition and helped me make one small change at a time turning it into a lifestyle." Gibson P., on the Legacy site, said of the approach: "I enjoyed the way you could eat anything you want, just in moderation." Coaches meet you at your starting point instead of handing every member the same template.

Maranda knows the member side of this too. She trained at Legacy for 15 years or more as a Lifestyle-program success story, left a 20 year corporate career, and became a certified coach. Nancy also credits her nutrition coach Kim Madden for instilling the belief that she was capable of so much more. Coaches here have lived the work they ask of you.

Pairing food coaching with training

Most members join Nutrition Coaching alongside Small Group Fitness Classes or 1-on-1 training, because the two push in the same direction and the same gym staff see both sides. It can also be purchased alone, so if you already train somewhere else or prefer to work out on your own, you can still get a certified specialist in your corner.

Members have weekly one-on-one check-ins with a coach. Nutrition sessions are scheduled directly with your coach to fit your week, not tied to a class time, which matters if you work early or travel. Most members notice more energy and strength within weeks, with body composition changes within 4 to 12 weeks. With check-ins every week, the plan gets looked at often.

There are no posted prices on the Legacy site. Memberships are based on your goals, schedule, and budget, and a coach covers the options on a 15-minute coaching call before you begin the Free 1-Week Trial. Call (763) 998-1003, or visit the gym at 12740 Aberdeen St NE in Blaine, Minnesota, and ask for a nutrition coach by name. Memberships can be held or cancelled with 30 days' notice, so there is room to adjust if your plans change.
